My Story

I was born into a simple pineapple farming family in Hawaii, the youngest of six brothers and sisters. My parents, Timon and Cecilia Johnson, loved us very much and taught us all there was to know about pineapple farming. When I was 13 years old, there was an accident on the farm that took the lives of my parents and left me horribly disfigured. I had gotten up early that morning, as I was excited to be joining my parents as they made their monthly delivery of pineapples to the local processing plant. There was an explosion at the plant, and when I woke up I was in the hospital. My face was left scaly and yellow and my hair with a permanent green tint from the chemical burns. I spent all my life working with pineapples, now I looked like one.

My uncle and aunt took over the family farm and I tried to continue life as normal, but it was not easy. Kids can be cruel and when you work on a pineapple farm and look like a pineapple...well, the names and jokes - they never stopped. Nonetheless, I endured and feel I grew only stronger because of it - embracing nicknames such as "Mr. Pineapple" as badges of honor instead of the insults they were meant to be.

When I was 18, I decided to leave for the mainland and pursue my dreams of becoming a movie star. If there was any one place where my looking like a freak would be accepted - it had to be Hollywood! They can do amazing things with makeup and special effects, you know. I spent 5 years trying to get discovered, but never succeeded. I decided it was time for a change of scenery, so I moved to White Rock, British Columbia, Canada and opened a fruit store, "Tiger Walt Johnson's Fruit Shop." We carried a wide assortment of fruit including, among other things, pineapples. But the dream of being in movies never left my heart.

Life was going pretty good. Then HE walked in. HE knows who HE is...I can't even stand to say his name. He bought a pineapple, and the next day came back and said it was the best pineapple he'd ever had. He became a great customer, buying many pineapples throughout the months that followed. One day, he walked in and said he was working on this new TV show, Psych, and he had the perfect place for me. Needless to say, I was ecstatic! Finally my dreams were to come true.

I arrived on set for the filming of the pilot and gave it my all. I thought I was pretty funny - and HE said I was fantastic, that big things were in store for me. I left the set walking on air. I sold my fruit stand and bought myself a new house and car and basked in my newfound stardom. It was an amazing feeling, until the pilot aired. I was nowhere to be seen in it.

I called HIM. HE said he was sorry, but he and the rest of the cast/crew/writers decided I wasn't all that funny after all and cut all my parts from the show - leaving me with nothing. I was devastated. I had only had this feeling one other time in my life...as that 13 year old boy learning that my parents were dead and I was doomed to spend my days resembling a pineapple.

I managed to scrape together what little money I had left, and now I push this pineapple cart around White Rock trying to make ends meet. Every now and then, James and Maggie, Dulé or Tim come by and buy a pineapple - and I am grateful for the contribution, but it hurts to see them and remember what happened.

THAT is my story. But...do watch Psych every Wednesday at 10/9C because it's really a fantasic show, despite the fact that they left me at the curb like a squishy, moldy old pineapple.

My name is Tiger Walt Johnson.

I do hope they have a good sense of humor about it, though. After all, a pineapple is a terrible thing to waste.
